Chocolate Zin Soft Serve Ice Cream

“The use of the Old Vine Zinfandel with dark chocolate gives this rich dessert undertones of berries and cocoa. Delicious!”
– Ross and Karna Murphy, 3rd Generation AVV Family Members

– Serves 8 –

2 cups whole milk
2 6.8 oz. bars of dark chocolate (such as Hershey’s)
1 cup AVV Old Vine Zin
¼ cup cocoa powder
¼ cup brown sugar (such as demerara crystals)
1 tsp. vanilla extract

Required Equipment:
1 home ice cream maker (be sure to follow the manufacturer’s instructions.)

Method of Preparation:
Put the milk and chocolate in a pot and heat to medium, stirring occasionally until the chocolate melts and is incorporated into the milk. Stir in the wine, then allow the mixture to simmer for a few minutes. Add the cocoa powder, sugar and vanilla extract, stir until incorporated and lumps are gone.

Chill mixture for approximately 2 hours in the freezer. In the ice cream maker, churn as directed for 20-25 minutes. It will be soft at this point. Transfer to a freezer container and freeze for up to four hours before serving.
